Infusing industrial, techno, funk, and pop, Information Society stormed dance clubs and charts with their infectious 1988 hit, "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)." Originating from Minneapolis, the quartet signed to Tommy Boy Records, delivering a self-titled debut. Lead by Kurt Harland's smooth vocals and a Leonard Nimoy sample, the single skyrocketed to number three on pop charts, followed by "Walking Away" reaching the Top Ten. Despite being labeled one-hit wonders, they persisted, albeit with lineup changes, releasing albums and touring globally, notably with the 2014 release "Hello World" and a 2016 covers album.
