For over 50 years, the Scorpions have defined German rock music on the global stage. From humble beginnings in post-war Hannover, founding members Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, and Matthias Jabs pushed their amps through the streets in a wheelbarrow—launching what would become Continental Europe’s most successful rock band.
With over 100 million albums sold worldwide, the Scorpions stand as Germany’s musical export to rival Mercedes or BMW. Their hits, especially “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” have been covered by hundreds of artists, influencing bands from Green Day to System of a Down.
Major U.S. breakthroughs include Lovedrive (1979) and Love at First Sting (1984), with hits like “No One Like You,” “Send Me an Angel,” and the era-defining anthem “Wind of Change.” The latter topped charts in seven countries and earned platinum status alongside Crazy World and Sting in the Tail.
Their impact isn’t limited to records. The Scorpions played thousands of shows across the globe—from Rio to Tokyo, Berlin to Dubai. In 1988, they became the first Western rock band to perform five consecutive sold-out shows in Leningrad, helping open the door for Western music behind the Iron Curtain.
Their landmark performance at Rock in Rio in 1985 and their role in the 1989 Moscow Music Peace Festival showcased their status as global rock icons and ambassadors of cultural change.
Through pioneering performances, platinum records, and decades of electrifying shows, the Scorpions have become living legends—proof that rock music made in Germany can move the world.
