Formed in 1980, the Los Angeles-based new wave group Missing Persons gained fame as much for their video-ready image as for their music. Singer Dale Bozzio and drummer Terry Bozzio, a former member of Frank Zappa's band, founded the band after meeting in a Hollywood studio. The lineup included Zappa alumnus Warren Cuccurullo on guitar, Patrick O'Hearn on bass, and keyboardist Chuck Wild. Their 1981 debut EP, reissued by Capitol in 1982, produced near-Top 40 hits "Words" and "Destination Unknown." Their unique look and synth-driven songs made them MTV favorites. After 1986's Color in Your Life flopped, the band disbanded. Dale Bozzio released a solo album with Prince's label, Terry Bozzio worked with Jeff Beck, Cuccurullo joined Duran Duran, O'Hearn pursued instrumental albums, and Wild composed for films and TV. Lady Gaga has cited Dale Bozzio's style as an influence on her own iconic fashion choices.
