Michelle Kwan is the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history, with two Olympic medals, five World titles, and nine U.S. championships. She holds records for eight consecutive U.S. titles (1998–2005) and 12 consecutive U.S. medals (1994–2005). Kwan is also the only woman to reclaim the World title three times (1998, 2000, 2003).
Beyond the rink, Kwan has built an impressive career in diplomacy and public service. In 2006, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice appointed her as a public diplomacy ambassador, a role she continued under the Obama administration. She earned a degree in international studies from the University of Denver in 2009 and a master’s in international relations from Tufts University’s Fletcher School in 2011.
That same year, Kwan became a senior adviser to the U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and to Women-LEAD, a U.S.-China women’s leadership initiative. Her public service includes work with the Special Olympics and roles in major political campaigns, including Hillary Clinton’s and Joe Biden’s presidential bids. In 2020, she served as director of surrogates for Biden’s campaign and in 2021 as a senior advisor to the Presidential Inaugural Committee.
