Iliza Shlesinger was born in New York City but spent her childhood in Dallas, Texas. She studied Spanish growing up and also was part of the school's improvisation team. She would later perform with ComedySportz Dallas and research at the University of Kansas. During college, she would participate in Semester at Sea and eventually transfer to Emerson College in Boston. Majoring in film, she would become a member of Jimmy's Traveling All Stars during her college career.
After college, Shlesinger would move to Los Angeles to pursue her stand-up comedy. Iliza was one of the most popular members of the Whitebody Comedy group in Los Angeles. Eventually, she would find The Improv in Hollywood and win several contests for her comedy, earning television credits for shows as she continued writing and producing comedy. She was also the first woman and the youngest winner of the Last Comic Standing on NBC in 2008.
Over the years, Shlesinger has been the host of The Weakly News, StarTalk Radio Show, and others. In 2016, a late show was created for Iliza titled Truth & Iliza, which ran for six episodes. In addition, her first comedy album and video, War Paint, was put on Netflix in 2013. She also was the star of Pieces of a Woman, supporting the main character. Iliza married chef Noah Galuten, and they are expecting their first child in 2022.
