Vocalists Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, and Mark Feehily first performed together in the pop group IOYOU, where they caught early attention when Simon Cowell considered signing them. Westlife made an immediate impact with their 1999 debut single “Flying Without Wings,” which entered the U.K. charts at number one. The group repeated the achievement with “Swear It Again” and “Seasons in the Sun,” all of which appeared on their self-titled debut album. The release went platinum in the U.K. and was followed by an American release in early 2000.
