Fountains of Wayne, best known for their 2003 hit “Stacy’s Mom,” had already earned a devoted following years before their mainstream breakthrough. Formed in 1995 by Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood—college friends with a shared love of British pop—the band emerged with sharp, witty lyrics and melodic power pop.
