Crystal Waters is an American house and dance music singer and songwriter. She's best known for her music from the 1990s, including her dance hits "Gypsy Woman," "100% Pure Love", and "Destination Calabria," which was released in 2007 with collaborative efforts from Alex Gaudino. Born in Deptford Township, New Jersey, Crystal is the daughter of a famed jazz musician, Junior Waters. When she was younger, she began to write poetry and took her writing seriously enough to earn herself a spot in the Poetry Society of America at fourteen. She's still the youngest person to ever receive this honor.
In the music industry, Crystal Waters' first job would be as a backup singer in a local recording studio. She would realize in this role that she wanted more creative control over writing what she sang. She would write songs alongside the Basement Boys in D.C., including "Makin' Happy" and "Gypsy Woman". Her single, "Makin' Happy," would shoot to the number one spot on the Billboard Dance Club songs charts. In 1994, she would follow up this release with her album, Storyteller, which would earn her a mainstream comeback. Her single, “100% Pure Love”, would hit number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. It would become one of the longest-charting singles on the Hot 100 at 45 weeks.
As a singer and songwriter, Crystal Waters does not make nearly as much music now as she used to, but she's sold more than 7 million records to date. Her latest release, "Party People," which she sang with D.J. Spen and DJ Micfreak, was released in 2020. She's also won three awards for her work, including her song "100% Pure Love" and her album, Storyteller.
