Rapper Marvin Young, known as Young MC, grew up middle-class and earned an economics degree from USC. There, he met Delicious Vinyl co-founders Michael Ross and Matt Dike. He debuted with "I Let 'Em Know," and in 1989, co-wrote Tone-Loc's hits "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina." Young's solo hit "Bust a Move" won a Grammy and drove his album Stone Cold Rhymin' to platinum status. After disputes with Delicious Vinyl, Young moved to Capitol, but his subsequent albums struggled. He continued releasing indie albums and appeared in the film Up in the Air in 2009.
