Nicole Scherzinger, born June 29, 1978, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, is a pop singer, dancer, and performer of Hawaiian, Russian, and Filipino descent. She studied theater and dance at Wright State University before leaving to pursue music, first as a backing vocalist for Days of the New.
In 2001, Scherzinger gained national attention on Popstars, becoming lead singer of the girl group Eden’s Crush. Their debut single, “Get Over Yourself,” hit the Billboard Top 10 before the group disbanded. She later recorded solo as Nicole Kea and contributed to the 50 First Dates soundtrack.
In 2003, she became the lead singer of the revamped Pussycat Dolls. The group’s 2005 debut album PCD sold millions worldwide, with Scherzinger handling nearly all lead vocals and earning songwriting credits. Despite several high-profile collaborations, her solo album Her Name Is Nicole was shelved in 2008 after multiple singles underperformed.
She returned with the Dolls’ second album, Doll Domination (2008), featuring the global hit “Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny).” Scherzinger then pivoted to TV, judging The Sing-Off, winning Dancing with the Stars in 2010, and joining The X-Factor U.K.
Her official solo debut, Killer Love (2011), charted well internationally, especially in the U.K., driven by hits like “Don’t Hold Your Breath.” In 2012, she toured solo and acted in Men in Black 3. She returned to The X-Factor in 2012 and 2013, before signing with RCA and releasing her second solo album Big Fat Lie in 2014.
Throughout her career, Scherzinger has blended music, TV, and film with international success, though a consistent U.S. solo breakthrough has remained elusive.
