Flight Facilities, the Australian electronic music duo of Hugo Gruzman and James Lyell, emerged from Sydney in 2009 and quickly made waves with their breakout single “Crave You” (2010) featuring Giselle Rosselli. The follow-up, “Foreign Language” (2011) with Jess Higgs, won a J Award and solidified their rising profile. Festival appearances at SXSW, Falls Festival, and Coachella further boosted their reputation.
Their 2014 debut album Down to Earth reached number three on the ARIA Albums chart, went gold, and featured hits like “Clair de Lune” and “Stand Still.” In 2015, they showcased their versatility with Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, a recording of their orchestral concert.
From 2017 onward, Flight Facilities released a steady stream of collaborations, including “Arty Boy” with Emma Louise, “Stranded” with Broods, Reggie Watts, and Saro, and 2018’s “Need You” with Nika. In 2019, “Better Than Ever” with Aloe Blacc entered Australia’s Top 100.
In 2021, they teamed with Channel Tres for “Lights Up,” featured on their second album Forever. The record, which also included Your Smith and Drama, climbed to number six on the ARIA chart and won the AIR Award for Best Independent Dance or Electronica Album or EP. That year also saw the release of the Lost Forever EP.
Continuing their collaborative streak, the duo worked extensively with Owl Eyes in 2024, delivering tracks like “Trouble” and “Day of the Weeks.” Known for blending sleek electronic production with melodic hooks and a rotating cast of guest vocalists, Flight Facilities remain a fixture in Australia’s dance scene while maintaining an international following.
