Jodi Kantor is a prize-winning investigative reporter today whose work reveals hidden truths about power across law, gender, technology, and culture. At The New York Times, her reporting has driven change—from inspiring readers to create lactation pods for nursing mothers, to prompting policy shifts, including paternity leave at Amazon.
For the past two years, Kantor has focused on the U.S. Supreme Court. With Times colleagues, she reported the behind-the-scenes story of how the justices overturned the constitutional right to abortion, examined problems in the investigation into the leak, and uncovered a secret influence effort by anti-abortion activists and another alleged breach. In spring 2024, she broke the news of two provocative flags displayed at the homes of Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.
Kantor is also widely known for the 2017 investigation, with Megan Twohey, that exposed decades of sexual abuse allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. The reporting helped shift legal, corporate, and social standards for treatment of women and earned their team the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Kantor and Twohey chronicled that work in the bestseller She Said, adapted into a 2021 feature film, and later created Chasing the Truth, a guide for young journalists.
Earlier, Kantor’s reporting on automated scheduling systems at Starbucks helped fuel the fair-scheduling movement. From 2007 to 2013, she covered Barack and Michelle Obama and the 2008 and 2012 campaigns, later publishing the bestseller The Obamas.
A onetime law student who chose journalism, Kantor has earned honors including the George Polk Award, the Columbia Alumni Medal, and Time’s 100 Most Influential People. In 2025, she joined the Times Washington bureau’s Supreme Court team full-time. Her next book, How to Start: Discovering Your Life’s Work, will be published April 21, 2026. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Ron Lieber, and their two daughters.
