Dan Rather is an American journalist and former national evening news anchor. He would begin his career in the state of Texas, working and reporting on the horrible Hurricane Carla in September of 1961. He would create the first radar weather report of the hurricane and he would help with the evacuation of nearly 350,000 people from the affected areas. He would also report in Dallas at the time of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Because of his talents, Rather would be promoted to CBS News and serve as the White House correspondent beginning in 1964. He would also serve as the foreign correspondent in London and Vietnam, before returning to report on Nixon’s presidency. He would also famously report on the Watergate Scandal and the resignation of the president. He would hold the evening news anchor position for CBS Evening News starting in 1981 for 24 years. He would leave his desk job at CBS after the Killian scandal, eventually suing CBS but losing in the appeal court.
Dan Rather continues to be active as a journalist today, even at the age of ninety. He currently hosts The News with Dan Rather on the Young Turks’ YouTube channel, which he began in 2018.
