Jim Gaffigan is from the Midwest and grew up in a large family. As a kid, Jim would show interest in SNL and would watch the show as a teenager. He would attend Purdue University before he transferred to Georgetown to attend the McDonough School of Business. He would graduate with a degree in finance and play varsity football at both Purdue and Georgetown.
He attempted to work as a financial analyst but hated it and would turn to stand-up comedy as his next career move. In 1990, he moved to New York City, where he would find a job in advertising during the day to take acting classes at night. Gaffigan tried a variety of styles for his comedy, but he would lean on "clean" comedy, as this was his most comfortable genre of stand-up. In addition, he performs observational comedy and even was featured numerous times on Comedy Central
In 2012, he taped his first one-hour stand-up special, Mr. Universe, and was nominated for a Grammy. He also released King Baby on Comedy Central in 2009, one of his first big comedic performances released to the public. He has also used his stand-up career to help with charitable causes, donating to key organizations and events such as the 2013 CNN Heroes event. Gaffigan has also written for notable shows such as Late Night with Conan O’Brien and others.
