Jay Williams, one of college basketball’s most celebrated point guards, is an NBA analyst on ESPN’s NBA Countdown and a regular contributor on shows like Get Up, First Take, and The Jump. He previously co-hosted ESPN Radio’s Keyshawn, JWill & Max, also simulcast on ESPN2 and ESPNEWS.
Williams joined ESPN full-time in 2014 after earlier stints as a commentator. He was a fixture on College GameDay, ESPN’s Saturday college basketball show, and called games across ESPN networks. Before ESPN, he worked with CBS College Sports and Fox Sports Radio.
At Duke, Williams was a three-year starter who led the Blue Devils to a 2001 NCAA Championship and earned multiple national player of the year honors. He averaged 19.3 points, 6.0 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game and set numerous records, including most points in a season and NCAA Tournament 3-point attempts. Duke retired his No. 22 jersey after his junior year.
Selected second overall in the 2002 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls, Williams played one season, highlighted by a triple-double against the New Jersey Nets. He also represented the U.S. in the 2002 FIBA World Championship.
Beyond broadcasting, Williams is an entrepreneur and advocate. He leads the Rising Stars Youth Foundation, promoting education through basketball, and heads Jay LLC. He sits on the boards of USA Basketball and the John Wooden Awards Committee and is active in the NBA Retired Players Association.
Williams earned a sociology and business degree from Duke in just three years, becoming the first athlete at the school to do so.
