Born in New York City, Ingrid Michaelson was raised by her mother, a sculptor, and her father, a classical composer, making creativity a part of her DNA. Known for her delicate, comforting voice and her emotionally honest songs, Michaelson has built a career crafting music that feels universally relatable.
Remaining fiercely independent throughout her career, she founded her own label, Cabin 24 Records, and has released eight albums under its banner. Among her platinum-selling hits are “The Way I Am,” “Girls Chase Boys,” and “You and I,” all of which highlight her talent for writing songs that connect deeply with listeners. Beyond her albums, Michaelson has also composed extensively for television. She scored music for Little Fires Everywhere—earning an Emmy nomination—and Tiny Beautiful Things, both for Hulu. She also served as executive music producer for Apple TV+’s Slumberkins, where she created original songs for the series.
Michaelson has also established a presence on stage and screen. She appeared as a guest star in Season 3 of Netflix’s Girls 5 Eva and acted alongside Jemaine Clement and Elliott Gould in the indie film Humor Me. On Broadway, she made her on-stage debut in Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812. In 2024, she achieved another milestone, making her Broadway debut as a composer by writing the music and lyrics for The Notebook. The show earned a Tony nomination, and its Original Broadway Cast Recording, released through Atlantic, reached #1 on Billboard’s Cast Albums Chart.
Looking ahead, Michaelson continues to expand her artistry. She will release her ninth studio album, For the Dreamers, on August 23rd, further cementing her reputation as a versatile, heartfelt songwriter whose work bridges pop music, theater, and film.
