Earvin "Magic" Johnson's love of basketball has taken him to outstanding accomplishments since he first began playing as a young kid! His nickname, "Magic," was given to him as a sophomore playing for Everett High School when he scored a triple-double, which was a record at the time. He would go on play Michigan State before being recruited to play professionally in the 1980s.
He was drafted first overall in 1979 by the Los Angeles Lakers, and he would become one of the most recognized Lakers players of all time. He would play basketball until his HIV diagnosis announcement, in which he would retire in 1991.
Despite his retirement, he was voted a fan favorite for the 1992 NBA All-Star Game in Orlando. Following his Olympic competition in 1992 in Barcelona, he would write a book about his career. Then, he would decide to return to the Lakers as a coach and eventually play in the 1995-1996 season.
