Bebel Gilberto, born on May 12, 1966, is an American-born Brazilian popular singer with strong ties to bossa nova, being the daughter of João Gilberto and singer Miúcha, and the niece of singer/composer Chico Buarque.
Bebel Gilberto has been immersed in music since her youth in Rio de Janeiro, participating in professional musicals and making her recording debut at the age of seven on her mother's solo album.
Her professional solo debut came in 1986 with a self-titled EP that included "Preciso dizer que te amo," a collaboration with Cazuza and Dé Palmeira, who were part of the Barão Vermelho band at the time.
She contributed to the Red Hot + Rio project, joining major music stars like Everything but the Girl, George Michael, and others for a benefit CD recording.
Bebel Gilberto's album "Tanto Tempo," released in 2000, achieved popularity at clubs around the world, establishing her as one of the best-selling Brazilian artists in the U.S.
Throughout her career, she has sold over 2.5 million records and contributed to numerous film soundtracks and TV series.
In 2011, Bebel Gilberto covered "Acabou Chorare" for the Red Hot Organization's charity album, "Red Hot+Rio 2," which supports AIDS/HIV awareness and related health issues.
Her song "Tudo" received a nomination at the 16th Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Brazilian Song category in 2015.
