Bat for Lashes is the project of British-Pakistani artist Natasha Khan, known for blending mythic storytelling with ambitious, genre-spanning sounds. Emerging with the Mercury Prize-nominated Fur and Gold (2006), Khan drew early comparisons to Kate Bush and Björk. Her 2009 follow-up Two Suns expanded her vision, introducing her alter ego Pearl and earning another Mercury nomination, along with an Ivor Novello Award for the single “Daniel.”
Khan’s artistic evolution continued with 2012’s raw, cinematic The Haunted Man and 2016’s The Bride, a haunting concept album about grief and love. In 2019, she released Lost Girls, a synth-heavy homage to 1980s pop culture, followed by award-winning film and TV collaborations.
Born into a family of champion squash players, Khan studied visual art and childcare before launching Bat for Lashes in 2006. Her work has always fused music with visuals, from directing short films to designing tarot decks.
Motherhood deeply influenced her latest album, The Dream of Delphi (2024). Written during the pandemic and inspired by nature, femininity, and her daughter, it marks her most personal and experimental release to date.
