Amon Tobin’s groundbreaking career in sound design spans more than 25 years, producing some of the most era-defining records in electronic music. Known for constantly pushing sonic boundaries, Tobin has shaped the evolution of experimental sound and influenced generations of artists.
His journey began in 1996 with Adventures in Foam, where his distinctive otherness of sound first emerged. Subsequent albums such as Bricolage, Permutation, Supermodified, and Foley Room expanded his reputation as a restless innovator. This progression culminated in the 2011 release of ISAM, a project that introduced advanced synthesis techniques traditionally used in film sound design. The album’s pioneering audio-visual live shows—utilizing large-scale projection mapping—were hailed worldwide at venues including the Sydney Opera House, Olympia in Paris, and London’s Roundhouse, as well as major festivals such as Sonar, MUTEK, Coachella, and Moogfest.
After ISAM, Tobin spent nearly a decade developing new ideas under multiple aliases, all gradually unveiled through his Nomark label. In 2019, he released Fear In A Handful of Dust and Long Stories, followed by the debut of his alias Only Child Tyrant with Time To Run. The following year, his long-awaited Two Fingers project returned with Fight! Fight! Fight!, earning widespread acclaim. Also in 2020, Tobin introduced another alias, Figueroa, releasing The World As We Know It, quickly recognized as an “album of the year.” In 2021, he revealed Stone Giants with West Coast Love Stories, exploring the relationship between voice and machine from a fresh perspective.
Unconfined by genre, Tobin’s artistry is marked by constant reinvention, from jungle and IDM to cinematic soundscapes and immersive live shows.
