Tyler Halverson, born and raised in tiny Canton, SD (pop. 3,054), is far from your typical cowboy. With boots, a hat, and a guitar in hand, he’s carving out his own lane with what he calls “Amerijuana Music”—a blend of raw storytelling and genre-bending songcraft. Inspired by country legends like Garth Brooks and George Strait, as well as unexpected influences like Boyz II Men and Taking Back Sunday, Halverson’s sound is as unique as his journey.
He picked up his first guitar in middle school, and a local bluegrass festival lit the spark that set him on a musical path. After performing at 4H and FFA events, he moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University. Post-graduation, Halverson hit the road, traveling through South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming, writing songs and sharing them online.
His independent releases—like “Beer Garden Baby,” “Mac Miller,” and “Your Bar Now” (with Kylie Frey)—quickly built a loyal following and racked up tens of millions of streams. Now signed to Atlantic Records and launching his debut single “Her,” Halverson is poised for a breakout moment. “I’m finding myself,” he says. “I feel like I’m an artist and I’m finally about to do something.”
