Silk Sonic is an American super duo comprised of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. As a group, they only recently formed in 2021 and produce music considered soul, funk, pop, hip hop, and R&B. They are currently signed by Atlantic and Aftermath records, and their first single was released in March of 2021. Titled "Leave the Door Open," would receive attention, but their later singles would continue their success.
Their last singles, "Skate" and "Smokin' Out the Window," would be released in the summer of 2021, right before their first album. An Evening with Silk Sonic would hit the shelves in November of 2021, and they would earn the number two spot on the Billboard 200. Their single, "Leave the Door Open," spent 18 weeks in the top ten and two weeks non-consecutively at the top spot. The song would earn the band four Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and even Song of the Year.
As a band, people have described their sound as a mixture of multiple genres but disco inspired. Critics have labeled their music as styled like the 1960s and 1970s, not as a retro nostalgia genre, but as a fusion of these influences.
