While honing their craft in Bath, England's pubs, Byrne, half of synth-pop duo Naked Eyes alongside Rob Fisher, drew inspiration from icons like Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. Initially part of the band Neon with Fisher, Curt Smith, and Roland Orzabal, the group disbanded, leading to Tears For Fears' formation by Smith and Orzabal and Naked Eyes' inception by Byrne and Fisher. Signing with EMI, they recorded at Abbey Road Studios, where they covered a Sandie Shaw song, "Always Something There To Remind Me," sparking their string of hits, including "Promises, Promises" and "When The Lights Go Out," dominating U.S. airwaves and MTV.
