Born in Seattle in 1939 and raised in Denver, Judy Collins transitioned from classical piano to acoustic guitar in her teens. Moving to New York's Greenwich Village as a young adult, she emerged as a leading folk singer in the 1960s. Throughout her career, she propelled the careers of artists like Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell. Collins diversified her repertoire, embracing pop, rock, and standards. A Grammy winner, she achieved chart success with her rendition of Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns" in 1975.
