Over the span of a decade, Francis Farewell Starlite's solo endeavor, Francis and the Lights, evolved from a personal pursuit into a prominent collaborator with artists such as Drake, Frank Ocean, and Chance the Rapper, establishing himself as a respected artist. Starlite's musical journey began after leaving Wesleyan University, embarking on a cross-country trip to his birthplace in Oakland, California. His 2007 debut EP, Striking, showcased '80s R&B influences and modern indie sounds, catching the attention of Drake. The subsequent years saw collaborations, tours, and significant releases, including the debut album Farewell, Starlite! in 2016 and the surprise sophomore effort Just for Us in 2017. The signing to GOOD Music in May 2017 and the 2019 album Take Me to the Light, featuring Bon Iver and Kanye West, marked pivotal moments in Francis and the Lights' remarkable journey.
