America Ferrera is an award-winning actor, director, producer, and activist known for her roles in Ugly Betty, Real Women Have Curves, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Superstore, and most recently, Barbie, for which she earned an Academy Award nomination. Her breakout role as Betty Suarez won her an Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG Award, and more. Ferrera also appeared in Dumb Money and starred in Apple TV+’s WeCrashed.
She is set to make her feature directorial debut with I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, an adaptation of Erika Sánchez’s bestseller. Ferrera previously directed and produced episodes of Netflix’s Gentefied and NBC’s Superstore, and she founded her own production company, Take Fountain.
A passionate advocate for equity and representation, Ferrera co-founded the non-profits HARNESS and Poderistas, and is a founding investor in Angel City Football Club. She has spoken at major events like TED and the Women’s March, and her activism is featured in several acclaimed documentaries. In 2018, she released the New York Times best-seller American Like Me, a collection of essays about identity and culture in the U.S.
Born and raised in Los Angeles to Honduran immigrants, Ferrera studied International Relations at USC and now lives in New York City with her husband and two children.
