Dev Patel is an English actor who has received numerous accolades, including a BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, two Golden Globes, and three SAG Awards. He made his first debut in the industry with Skins as Anwar Kharral, a teen drama. After that, he had no professional acting experience, but he would get his breakthrough in Slumdog Millionaire in 2008 as Jamal Malik.
Born in London, he would become interested in acting from a young age, but he would focus on theater before entering the film industry. However, he also was highly involved in taekwondo, where he would win a bronze medal at the World Championships in Dublin in 2004. He also has a 1st dan black belt, which he received in March 2006. His breakthrough role with Slumdog Millionaire would change his life, and he would become highly recognized as a notable actor for future projects.
After Slumdog Millionaire, he would star in The Last Airbender, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Newsroom, About Cherry, and The Road Within. More recently, he starred in Monkey Man, where he was also the production's writer, producer, and director.
