issa Rae is an American actress, writer, producer, and comedian, best known for her work on the YouTube series, Awkward Black Girl. She’s been working on her channel since 2011 and she’s produced numerous products including short films, web series, and other content exclusive to the black community. She’s received more recognition in recent years for her work on the HB TV series, Insecure, which she serves as the co-creator, co-writer, and star. For her effort on this, she’s been nominated for multiple Golden Globes and Primetime Emmy Awards.
In 2015, Rae would release her memoir, titled The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, and it would eventually go to The New York Times bestseller list. In her early life, issa Rae was born in Los Angeles and she would travel around, living in different parts of the world before ultimately attending Stanford University. She would receive her bachelor’s degree in African and African American Studies.
