Kenan Thompson was born in Compton, California, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.When he was only five years old, his mother would enroll him in acting classes. First, he would play in several youth plays, including The Wiz, The Gingerbread Duck, and others. Then, he would audition to join the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA).His earliest role was on "Real News for Kids" on CNN.He would also star on Kenan & Kel on Nickelodeon. He was also in the movie D2: The Mighty Ducks.
Kenan would have several notable roles in films like Heavyweights, D3: The Mighty Ducks, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, and Snakes on a Plane. In 2009, he would become a regular voice actor for Sit Down, Shut Up. In 2003, Thompson would join the cast and become the first member born after 1975. Many people thought he was too young, but they would promote him to the featured player in 2005 and then repertory player in 2006. He has been a member of SNL for 18 years.
While working on SNL, Thompson has earned nominations for four Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2018, 2020, and 2021. He has also become a favorite for SNL writers to include in sketches because of his unique way of making people laugh and is one of the most reliable individuals on the cast.
