Ego Nwodim was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She is of Nigerian heritage and would graduate high school to attend the University of Southern California. While there, she would study biology and ultimately decide to pursue a career in comedy. She would begin taking classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles. Until then, she was asked about joining SNL; she would be a regular cast member at UCB, where she would perform her one-woman show, Great Black Women…and Then There’s Me.
In 2016, Nwodim was named one of the New Faces for the Just for Laughs festival. She also performed at the CBS Diversity Showcase. In the TV show, she would have supporting roles in Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, 2 Broke Girls, Living Biblically, and other parts. She also roasted celebrities and companies in a 2017 Funny or Die sketch.
In 2018, she would join SNL as a cast member. In 2020, she was announced to become a repertory player for the 46th season. She has recently been featured on TV shows such as Shrill, Brockmire, and The Shivering Truth.
