Molly Bloom is an American author, entrepreneur, and speaker. She originally trained to become an Olympic skier for several years, but an injury would end her chances to enter the sport at such a competitive level. In 2013, she would be caught running a high-stakes poker game and she would be convicted, forfeiting a large sum of money. However, she would then go on to write her novel, Molly’s Game, about her experiences. The film was adapted into a movie starring Hollywood great, Jessica Chastain, in December of 2017.
As a graduate of University of Colorado Boulder, Bloom would complete a degree in political science. After her college experience, she would move to Los Angeles and become involved in the high-stakes poker ring. She would come across individuals like Leonardo DiCaprio, Macaulay Culkin, Matt Damon, and the Olsen twins. From here, she would end up moving to New York City during the recession and would continue to be involved in the poker games.
Despite her challenges in the 2000s, Molly Bloom has made light of her experience and she shares stories of what she encountered. Her novel, Molly’s Game, is a memoir about her experiences, published shortly after the events of her arrest and conviction. Her book-turned-film was nominated for an Academy Award in 2018 for the Best Adapted Screenplay, and it even premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2017.
