Kristi Yamaguchi is an American figure skater who has since retired. However, she is well known for her Olympics in 1992 and the World Championships in 1991, 1992, and even Juniors in 1991 and 1992. She won gold in all of her competitions except for the 1987 World Junior Championships in Pairs. She would show interest in figure skating from a young age and be homeschooled to help with training.
As a pairs skater, she would compete numerous times with Rudy Galindo, and they would win together in the World Junior championships and even in the Olympics. Finally, however, Kristi would decide to enter into figure skating as a singles competitor, which she would earn a gold medal in the Olympics in 1992. She would become the first Asian-American to do so on the Olympic level.
She married Bret Hedican, a professional hockey player who would play for the Carolina Hurricanes and the Anaheim Ducks in her personal life. The family currently lives in Northern California with their two daughters, and Kristi has also authored a children's book, Dream Big, Little Pig!, with illustrator Tim Bowers.
