Heidi Gardner was born in Missouri and would grow up working at the Tivoli Theater, where she would complete various jobs and tasks. She felt that her part-time job at the theater would interest her in furthering her acting and comedy. In high school, she was voted "most likely to be a cast member of Saturday Night Live" for her gift of humor. She would enroll in the University of Kansas for two years and then transfer to the University of Missouri.
Heidi dropped out of school at 21 years of age and moved to Los Angeles. Working at a hair salon for nine years, she was encouraged to join the Groundlings theater and begin her entrance into the world of comedy. She was accepted into the group and would join the Sunday Company. She was also a voice actress, working on Bratz, SuperMansion, and Mike Tyson Mysteries. In SNL’s 43rd season, Gardner would be accepted into the cast.
After just one year on the show, Gardner was hired to play the supporting role in Life of the Party alongside Melissa McCarthy. She would also have a guest spot in Superstore. Gardner is married to Marvel Comics writer Zeb Wells, and they met when she was working with the Groundlings in Los Angeles.
