He is best known for playing Lawrence Kutner on the show House, and he has also played numerous other individuals over the years. He is also famous for starring as Kumar Patel in Harold & Kumar. However, he is most recognized for his work in The Namesake as an actor in Hollywood.
In 2009, he would join the Obama administration to become a White House staff member. First, he would work as the Principal Associate Editor of the White House Office of Public Engagement. Then, he would briefly leave his post to work on another Harold & Kumar production. He would also work on How I Met Your Mother while working at the White House in 2011. In 2016, he would begin acting as Seth Wright in Designated Survivor, which he would star on until 2019.
Besides his acting and political career, Penn has also been a notable lecturer for Asian American studies, working at the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University, where he was working to receive a graduate certificate in international security. He also married his partner of 11 years in 2021.
