In 1994, Grohl formed a band to support the album that he wanted to release. He recruited bassist Nate Mendel, drummer William Goldsmith, and guitarist Pat Smear.
Evolving from Dave Grohl's solo project, Foo Fighters blend alt-rock anthems with enduring melodies. Their journey, from the self-recorded debut's success in 1995 to a full-fledged band after "The Colour and the Shape" in 1997, reflects a unique sound merging classic guitar rock with Pixies and Nirvana influences.
