Dark Star Orchestra, a Grateful Dead tribute band, takes its name from the Dead's iconic song "Dark Star." Conceived by Bob Matthews, an engineer/producer with extensive ties to the Dead, the band recreates specific Dead concerts, playing identical songs with matching arrangements and equipment. For instance, they replicated the Dead's May 5, 1977, show in New Haven, CT, at the Fillmore Auditorium on May 8, 2004. Matthews recorded and filmed the performance, resulting in the double-DVD set "Live at the Fillmore," released on his label ArSeaEm Recording.
